Did you know that this forum has a feature which can notify you via an email of new posts? This way you won't miss anything that you feel deserves your attention.

This is almost like the forum tapping you on the shoulder and saying "Hey Guest, there is a new message on the forum that you should look at, click here to read it!".

This feature does not require that you login and manually look for the information. A direct link is provided in the email so you can easily view the new information without having to search for it. Hint: This feature works particularly well if you check the "Always state logged in" or "Forever" selection on the login form on your home PC.

As an example, perhaps you would like to be notified via email if a new 'For sale or trade' listing occurs. To receive a notification of any new messages made to the 'Items For Sale, Trade or Wanted' area, do the following:

  • Click on the 'Items For Sale, Trade or Wanted' board. At this point, do not click on any particular listing.
  • Notice the board's menu near the top of the listings. You will see the board menu that includes buttons such as: [Mark Read] [Notifiy] [New Topic] and so on. We're interested in the [Notify] button.
  • Press the [Notify] button. You will see a message that says "Are you sure that you wish to enable notification of new topics to this board?", click "OK".

That's it, you're done!  :onethumb:

You'll now receive an email notification when ever someone posts a new topic to the "Items For Sale, Trade or Wanted" board.

I suggest that you may also want to enable Notification on the "Range Announcements", and perhaps also the "CRnG Events and Activities", and "Volunteers Needed" boards.

Of course you can enable a notification for any board of interest to you. This allows you to customize the system for your particular needs without having to bother you with a notification of new posts to every area.

Note that you can also receive notifications if any new replies are made to a particular topic that interests you. To do that, simply open the topic of interest and then press the [Notify] button. It works the same way as mentioned above, but the notifications will be limited to the particular topic.

If you no longer wish to receive these notifications, you can either click the link in the email that says "Unsubscribe to this topic by using this link: . . .", or while viewing the specific topic or board, you can press the [Unnotify] button and choose to disable notifications.

To view which notifications you have enabled, press the [Profile] button on the top main menu, and then under 'Modify Profile' click on "Notifications". Here you can select how often you will be notified. You can choose "Instantly", "Daily" or "Weekly" (I suggest you leave it set to "Instantly").  You can also manage the particular Topic and Board notifications which you have elected to receive.

The default action is to enable notification of any topics where you have posted a message or a reply.

In your profile under the "Notifications" section you may also see an option that says:
"When sending notification of a reply to a topic, send the post in the email (but please don't reply to these emails.)".
If you enable this option, the notification email will contain a copy of the posting itself, saving you from having to come to the forum to read the post.  IMPORTANT NOTE: When enabling this option, some people tend to forget that they must visit the forum to reply to the posting. Replying to the notification email itself means that no one will see your reply. So be sure to visit the forum if you feel you must reply to the original message.

The notification feature works well and is very useful if you learn how to use it properly.

If you need any help with this, feel free to ask, the Forum Team will be glad to help you!
