Hi Frank,  Welcome to the CRnG forum!

I didn't see any officer answer your question so I thought I would try. I could be wrong as I'm not a range officer in any capacity.

For some reason, there is no public accessible copy of our range rules online. I don't know why it's this way because if you visit the club, people are happy to hand you a printed copy of the rules.

I did a quick look of our range rules and found these two details about the rifle range that may help you:

Paper targets may be used on all Ranges. No glass, cans or breakable targets may
be used on the Rifle Range. (except during organized events).

Spinning or Knockdown targets may be used on the Rifle range. They must be
placed within 3’ of the berms.

I didn't see any specific mention of steel targets, so I would advise you to get an official clarification from an officer. Hopefully one will answer it here and I'm sure one or two will the next time they are online.

Regards, and welcome!
Rich

Hi Rich,

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. Seems like there is hope for steel targets, since I believe most spinners are.

I figure if no range officer replies I will make a trip down to visit and get the bylaws ask ask a few questons. i was there last Friday as a guest and really the expansive areas that the club owns. I am at a small club now and space is a little tight.

Thanks again....Frank

Frank,
Steel reactive targets are not permitted on our ranges except at sanctioned organized club events. Metal spinner targets are permitted for .22 caliber only and must be placed within three feet of the berms.
If you are interested in a tour of the club and ask questions I am available almost any day/time to do so. You can contact me at cbuxton41@comcast.net.

The By-Laws and Range Rules are private club documents and should not be handed out to non-members. I do most of the tours for potential new members. I verbally explain the Range Rules but never hand out a hard copy to a non-member.

I checked several other websites for range rule postings and found that access to range rules is allowed by almost all of them.  Nonmembers can read and revue range rules before going to a firing range....I think this is a practical way promote the club.  It lets a prospective member know in advance what safety procedures are in effect at our ranges and prepares them when they do join the club.....The range rules are about shooting safe and being safe....Why are we hiding this behind the members only area.

If I get killed by my own gun, it was because I was beat to death with it when I ran out of bullets.

Thanks very much for the info. I agree with you regarding the by-laws, its a another good way for a potential member to pre-screen a club.

Got your message about steel targets.

I do want to come for another visit....One more queston. Would you allow heavy plastic laundry detergent bottles on the rifle range ? Assuming the shooters would be responsible by placing items in the proper location and clean up any mess or debris.

thanks for taking taking my questons.

:o  Frank whether comment about the detergent bottle was a joke. We shoot at ALL TIMES parallel to the deck so the bullet impacts the berms in a manner to which the ranges were designed for. Absolutely no shooting of any target not approved in the range rules, shooting anything on the "deck" is not allowed. Hope this helps.

Hi Bill,

No it was not a joke. Sorry about that, I did not mean for it to sound like one.

Ok I understand, must be paraell to the deck.

I understand, a ricochet could occur off the deck or off a steel target.

Alright, thanks for answering my questons, I will be out soon for a visit to see the club again.
