In addition we maintain an automatic “Members Trap” that can be used for Clays shooting practice by Club members and their guest(s) on a daily basis year round.
Wobble Trap
Chester Rod & Gun Club now offers Clays shooters Wobble Trap, the newest and fastest growing element of clay shooting.
The Wobble Trap is shot from our Five Stand range with targets (birds) launched from a single trap house randomly presented at various angles and trajectories that are unknown to the shooter.
Each shooter rotates through five shooting stations, and is presented with five targets at each station, consisting of a single and two report pairs, for a total of twenty-five targets.
Wobble Trap is an extremely challenging and fun clay shooting experience testing the shooters ability to react to targets launched at an undetermined angle and trajectory, with no presentations ever being repeated.
Sporting Clays
Chester Rod & Gun Club offers a Sporting Clays course utilizing a combination of electronic and manual traps. The course is open to the public April through September on Wednesday evenings starting at 5:00 PM. Signup for the events is 1/2 hour before start times. The event is only run weather permitting so always check the CRGC CALENDAR for confirmation on the day of the event.
The course consists of a 50 clay target (bird) presentation with a new layout every week. Depending on the number of shooters, squads are formed of approximately 6 shooters. Once the squads are formed they proceed around the course, consisting of six stations, where presentations of 4 or 5 pairs of clay targets are shot for a total of 8 or 10 targets per station. The presentations consist of various targets shot from different angles and distances and vary at each station with no duplication. A presentation consisting of a pair of targets can be delivered as a report pair, or simultaneous pair (simo). Each shooter is allowed only two shots per presentation.
Sporting Clays is a fun shooting experience for the whole family, providing challenges for all shooters, from the beginner to the very experienced. No special guns or equipment are required, however a shotgun shell bag capable of holding 60 rounds will be needed. For a safe shoot, appropriate eye and hearing protection is required for shooters and spectators.
Five Stand
During the winter months, November through March, Chester Rod & Gun Club Clays program conducts Five Stand shoots every Saturday morning 9:00AM – 12PM and is open to the public.
Five Stand is very similar to Sporting Clays in that a wide variety of targets are presented, shot from 5 different shooting stations from which each shooter gets to shoot 5 various target presentations. A full round consists of 25 targets per shooter.
There are 8 traps involved in our 5-Stand operation. Each trap has a unique presentation from running rabbit to springing teal and also includes incoming, outgoing, quartering-away, quartering-in, crossing, and other angled targets.
Up to 5 shooters participate in each round and shoot at each of the 5 stations or stands. Each station will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of targets he/she will be shooting (i.e. which traps the clay bird will be coming from). Each of the stations’ menus is different from all the others.
On the first pass at each station, the shooter gets a 2-Shot Single target. On the second pass at each station the shooter gets a Report Pair of targets. This is where after the first shot is fired, the second target is released. On the third and final pass in each stand, the shooter receives a True Pair of targets with both targets thrown simultaneously. Each shooter then moves to the next station. That's a total of 5-targets at each of the 5 stations for total of 25 targets.
Each week the menus are changed, as are the target presentation from each of the 8 traps, so the shooters experience an infinite number of different target combinations and presentations.
Five Stand is a great way to get a Sporting Clays like shooting experience during the winter with no walking required. If you haven’t yet tried 5-Stand shooting, come on out for an enjoyable and challenging shooting experience. New shooters are very welcome.
For a safe shoot, appropriate eye and hearing protection is required for shooters and spectators. Fees for all CRGC shooting activities can be found on the CRGC website under the Information tab
